„Ich liebe es Kontrabass zu spielen und mit Kontrasten zu spielen. Ich liebe Gegensätze, denn sie führen oft zu spannenden musikalischen Unterhaltungen. Zwischen Melodien, Rhythmen und Klangflächen. Zwischen Abstraktem und Konkretem. Komposition und Improvisation. Kollektiv und Individuum. Immer wieder erforsche ich musikalische Grenzbereiche und merke dann, dass da nie eine Grenze war. Auch das liebe ich. Ich versuche, radikal offen zu sein und doch stets bei mir selbst zu bleiben“.
Judith Ferstl (*1989) wuchs in Wiener Neustadt auf und lebt in Wien. Studium an der MUK Wien, dem Royal College of Music Stockholm, der Anton Bruckneruniversität Linz und der MDW Wien. Zu ihren Auszeichnungen zählen ein Start-Stipendium des Bundeskanzleramtes, das SKE-Jahresstipendium und der Bawag P.S.K. Next Generation Jazz Award.
Ihr musikalisches Spektrum reicht von vertrackten Rhythmen bis zu intimen Klangflächen – dabei forscht sie stets an neuen Klangfarben und spielt mit unterschiedlichen Rollenmustern, immer neugierig auf vielfältige Ausdrucksformen und unkonventionelle Klanglandschaften.
Als Kontrabassistin und Komponistin bewegt sie sich stilistisch zwischen Jazz, Improvisation, Pop und Folk und ist in zahlreichen Bands zu hören („Mel*E“, „Chuffdrone“, „June in October“, „AANÄ“, „Nordwestpassage“, „Clara Luzia“…). Ihre rege Konzerttätigkeit führte sie u.a. nach Buenos Aires, New York, Ottawa und Amman.

Judith Ferstl (*1989) grew up in Wiener Neustadt in Austria and lives in Vienna. She studied at the MUK Vienna, the Royal College of Music Stockholm, the Anton Bruckner University Linz, and the MDW Vienna.
Her awards include a start-up grant from the Federal Chancellery, the SKE annual scholarship and the Bawag P.S.K. Next Generation Jazz Award.
Her musical spectrum ranges from intricate rhythms to intimate soundscapes – she constantly explores new timbres and experiments with different role models, always curious about diverse forms of expression and unconventional sounds. As a double bassist and composer, she moves stylistically between jazz, improvisation, pop, and folk, and performs with numerous bands and projects (i.e. „Mel*E“, „Chuffdrone“, „June in October“, „AANÄ“, „Nordwestpassage“, „Clara Luzia“). Her active concert schedule has taken her to cities such as Buenos Aires, New York, Ottawa and Amman.
